Expanding Energy Access in the Democratic Republic of Congo
CEC engages in regional power trading by sourcing electricity through bilateral agreements from regional suppliers in the interconnected Southern African Power Pool (SAPP) network and the SAPP market. This power is primarily sold to mining companies in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) currently, in collaboration with the Congolese national utility, SNEL and CEC-DRC.
CEC is actively working on upgrading the Zambia-DRC interconnector to increase capacity and meet the growing energy demand in the region. The power supplied to mines in the DRC is sourced from the Company’s renewable energy projects as well as through imports from the Southern African Power Pool (SAPP) market.
